Blue Ridge Networks Introduces Wireless Security Product
BorderGuard™ platform optimized for wireless networks, and easy deployment
Chantilly, VA, February 24, 2004 - Blue Ridge Networks, a leader in secure communications, announced today it will offer the highest level of security for wireless networks, while optimizing end user mobility and ease of use. The BorderGuard™ wireless product suite will deliver infinite connectivity for enterprise workers using the multitude of networks available today, and unparalleled security for wireless networks.
The security needs of a mobile, wireless workforce are increasingly demanding as they jump from an 802.11 corporate wireless LANs (WLANs), to public Wi-Fi hotspots, to cable modems at hotels, to dial-up at home. Blue Ridge’s long heritage, as a leader in secure communications, assures enterprises adopting this solution that all their corporate WLAN, wireless VPN and traditional remote access needs are met in one completely secure and easy to deploy and use platform.
“There is confusion in the marketplace about how to tackle wireless security,” said Robert Hartnett, CEO and Chairman of Blue Ridge Networks. “Enterprises must not only consider the variable risks and complexities associated with corporate WLAN deployment, but also consider how to securely utilize public wireless spectrums as a productivity tool for their workers. Blue Ridge addresses the disparate issues of wireless LAN security and wireless remote access in one converged, simple to deploy package.”
Blue Ridge’s wireless security rivals the most secure wired networks. Though compliant with the 802.1x standard, BorderGuard™ wireless goes beyond those requirements and the recently announced Cisco EAP-FAST to address vulnerabilities present in other wireless LAN systems.
"The Blue Ridge solution is immune from all known forms of passive and active attacks to which other systems have been shown to be vulnerable,” said Tom Gilbert, Chief Technology Officer of Blue Ridge Networks. “Our unique and embedded strong authentication system and Tunnel-Lock™ feature enable us to create a solution that is impenetrable.”
The BorderGuard™ Wireless Security Suite will feature:
- Next Generation Borderguard™ appliance - featuring multi-hundred Mbps throughput
- Secure Network Roaming Client - ensures always on corporate connectivity, without sacrificing security and usability
- Tunnel-Lock™- renders remote wireless network endpoints impenetrable to attack
- Management Appliance - optimized for ease of system deployment and easily integrated into enterprise network management architectures
- FIPS 140-2 and Common Criteria certifications; 802.1x compliance
Blue Ridge’s intelligent, secure roaming client automatically enforces corporate security policy depending on the current network to which a user is connected. The end user has to do - absolutely nothing at all- to ensure the appropriate security levels as they change networks. With the security inherent, mobile workers can now concentrate on their task at hand instead of worrying about what security policy needs to be applied for the corporate WLAN, vs. public Wi-Fi, vs. their home broadband networks. The wireless client also serves as an assurance to the enterprise that their end users are always protected wherever and whenever they are connecting to the corporate network.
"Blue Ridge understands the end user experience and what it should be,” said Michael Suby, senior analyst with Stratecast Partners.“If security technology is too cumbersome to use, it won’t be used correctly, if at all. Blue Ridge has addressed that issue by taking the end user out of the equation, and putting the intelligence in their technology to make the right security choices.”
General availability for the full BorderGuard™ Wireless Security Suite is scheduled for the second half of 2004.
